Nov 2nd Community Work Day

Mark your calendars! November 2nd, 2024.

On this day, the shop will be closed for personal use as we come together to tackle some much-needed projects to enhance our space.

Asmbly thrives as a volunteer-run, community-driven space, and it’s events like these that keep our environment thriving and growing. We have a growing list of projects big and small to tackle on this day and we encourage you to join us for as much time as you can spare. Whether you can contribute an hour or stay the whole day, every bit of help makes a significant impact.

To show our appreciation, we’ll be providing breakfast, lunch, and beverages to keep everyone fueled throughout the day.

Thanks for being a part of Asmbly! We’ll see you there!

We’re just over 2 weeks away!

Mark your calendars, this will be a great way to spruce up the shop before the Maker Market.

We’re building a good list of tasks and things to do this day and would love to have your help! Additionally, if you’ve got ideas to add to this list, please drop them here or talk with your Shop Area Lead.

Some general tasks we need help with:

  • General cleaning
  • Basic machine tune-ups (waxing, tooth brushing, greasing)
  • Hanging cork boards or shelves

Specifically we could use someone with experience with:

  • Fixing gaps in laminate flooring (don’t look by the coffee maker :eyes: )

There will be food!

Remember, this is your space and we’re all here to pitch in to help make the space better for you and the community!

Hey all, I think I left my yeti water bottle behind - if anyone sees a gray yeti tumbler with a black and red bird sticker on it, could you toss it in the lost and found?

We an absolutely amazing group of volunteers today working hard for the benefit of us all. We also had some delicious food and coffee—that vanilla hazelnut coffee has become my favorite!

Thank you everyone who participated today :clap:t2::clap:t2::clap:t2::clap:t2::clap:t2::clap:t2::clap:t2::clap:t2:

As noted by the painted labels on the table surfaces themselves in the shop, glue up tables and single session use tables are identified. Please follow the appropriate storage policy and don’t forget to make use of the areas under the tables for storage (more on that coming soon).

The new filter was put on the dust collector and the internal filter beater was reattached. It is way more efficient and louder now. @Rolo can share the measurements he was taking but we were seeing >4X CFM at the router table post- vs pre-switch out.

Great work day everyone! It was amazing to see the space filled with so many people!!

Really awesome productive work day and delicious fuel to keep us going! HUGE thank you to @Rolo and all our Shop Area Leads for the work organizing and making sure there were plenty of tasks to go around :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

More pictures and videos in this folder here, including some fun ones of people karate kicking drywall to break it down for the trash can :joy:

I’ll add photos from this thread to the folder as well but feel free to add stuff directly if you want!

Vanilla hazelnut coffee was very good! I thought it said “VanHal” on the coffee box for Van Halen?

Added an outlet by the bandsaws for lights for those of us that benefit from additional lighting. I ordered a better light which should arrive later this week along with a new cover plate for the combo outlet.

From lights, to electrical outlets, to dozens of shirts, new dust collection and air filters, new table tops and squeaky clean machines, what a day!

Thank you to everyone that spent their time here yesterday.
It is no small feat.

For one reason or another, people came out to help. Either to get volunteer hours towards a free membership, to contribute to a maintenance day, or for no other reason than that they believe in this place and want to see it thrive.

I’m extremely thankful for the time and energy from everyone. It is nothing short of inspirational and motivational. You could be somewhere else but you all chose to be here and we’re all better off because of it.

I look forward to working for you all, seeing your space improve, and seeing what we can accomplish on the next work day!
