Finished this elevated dog bed for my friends new puppy! His name is Slug
Hand cut dovetails or Shaper? Slug is precious
Those are excellent! The Murphy desk in particular is giving me ideas because I’m always in search of best use of space around me…
Slug!
That is some super-clean joinery, really well done!
I made this bowl yesterday on the lathe in @drew.hynes’s class, and then afterwards laser engraved a Kazakh pattern all around the outside of it on Perl’s rotary tool.
This turned out great!!! I’m impressed you got it done so fast.
I may have to have you show me how you did that haha. Did you end up having to make a new piece of hardware to hold the bowl?
Robby, very very nice work especially the laser ring engraving - it adds a OMG to the look of it!
Thanks! I was able to use Perl’s rotary jig with the 3D printed funnel that was already in the cabinet. Here’s what it looked like:
There’s also a jig for Dorian that has a disk with adjustable pegs, which can securely grip inside the bowl’s mortise, similar to the lathe’s chuck. But I had some trouble getting its motor to work correctly in the past, so I stuck with Perl to be safe.
Beautiful. Did you end up with a weird seam at the end of the rotation?
Thanks! They are just finger joints, not dovetails, but they’re hand cut (does that include table saw? I chiseled them out to fit) lol
Thanks for the rotary setup pictures. That existing 3D printed funnel looks like it was just perfectly made for your work.
It took about a year and a half, but my tree is finally finished! I’m stoked with how it turned out, and the client I sold it to is very satisfied :). Thanks go to @bwatt for helping me out during the early stages of my project. This project used a combination of CNC, clay, and painted origami.
This turned out great! Glad to see it come to fruition!
whoa

From the depths of the COVID pandemic, if I remember well, you began learning to fold paper flowers—a quiet act of resilience. Now, your delicate, precise creations have blossomed into a stunning display, radiating both beauty and hope. I truly commend your artistry. It’s wonderful!
Whoa man, this is so cool! I will definitely need to try something like this!
Part Asmbly project, part at home in my own woodshop project. It’s not done yet, I need to build a large drawer and doors for the bottom cabinet, but it’s coming along.
Arch top was partially built at Asmbly, and I turned the legs on the lathes at the space.
Love seeing everybody’s work! Here’s my latest:
All the wood parts were routed on the router table with templates cut on the CNC and joined with dominoes. There are threaded inserts that bolt it together and the seat has a little pocket to store the wrench for safe keeping.
I picked the design because it has some natural gaps to help hide the seam. But while it was etching it actually went too far when it came back around by ~1/4 inch (maybe it slipped in the jig a bit while turning). Luckily I managed to stop it just before it burned back over the previous part, and it’s reasonably hidden because of how the pattern flows.
That’s amazing John! Did you upholster the cushions yourself as well?
