Yellow Tag - Planer - 06/23/2026

While I was using it, the planer started making a fwap-fwap-flap sound. Upon further inspection, it turns out that on of the three drive belts is frayed.

Since I didn’t know if we had any belts (sorry, I didn’t look) and it didn’t seem like a major issue, I buttoned it back up and did the last two passes on my board. It got quiet for the next user, but he said he didn’t notice anything that sounded like the belt breaking.

Frank @sneezix will you please submit a problem report?

So submitted.

The manual handily has the belt size listed: M59. This is a JIS standard, and some AI googling shows the sizes to be:

Specific dimensions for an M59 belt include:

  • Outside Circumference: ~59.4 inches (1509 mm)

  • Pitch Length: 59 inches

  • Top Width: 3/8 inch (10 mm)

  • Thickness: 7/32 inch (5.5 mm)

You can find that locally (grainger, autozone, etc.), by searching for “3L590 belt”.

You should replace all three at once.
