Hey y’all! Making a few changes to the turning area and wanted to keep updated.
I numbered all of the tools on the wall, and I took a few hours to put new profiles on all of the gouges. The plan is to color code both the tools and the One Way sharpening jig to make sharpening simpler and faster. There were a few unique profiles on the tools when I stopped by yesterday. So this will hopefully help keep tools consistent so that users aren’t surprised when they come in. I’m going to make a separate post as a guide to how the gouges should be sharpened in the meantime.
I tried to sharpen the gouges close to the profiles that were already on them/what people were used to. Please let me know if there’s any specific profiles you want ground on the tools and I’ll document that and designate a tool for it.
I also glued some MDF segments to hopefully keep the tools on the back wall from falling so much. I’ll come by tomorrow and remove the tape holding the blocks in place tomorrow.
Lastly, big bird is down unfortunately, as the power button stopped working today. Hope to get this back up soon.
Great job with the work station. I haven’t been in a while, picked up something and I think it was from a face shield. I think we need to make sure you sanitize the face shield before use or bring your own. Can we get a tutorial on sharpening the gouges. I want to do my part with that bit. Great work all! Kathy
Hello Kathy. I will look into getting some sanitizing spray back there for those who want it.
I would love to have a tutorial, I want to check in with a few people on how they’re liking the current profiles, then I’ll cement some in place and do a tutorial. Are you thinking an inperson tutorial, or video?
Also, took off the switch cover and vaccuumed out a good amount of shavings. There is a decent gap between the cover and the lathe that lets shavings in, may look to seal that gap to prevent future issues.
Great!! I prefer in person and perhaps we can make that available online. I’ll be bringing my face shield in the future, I wanted to make sure others thought about the masks and germs. Thank you, Kathy
