What would you do to repair this lamp?

Question for metalworking folks: a friend sent me this photo of a lamp in need of repair. There are precious few details (what it’s made of, how it was attached originally, etc) but he’s wondering what can be done to fix it up.

Anyone have thoughts about this?

Did the threaded section break in two places?

That’s what it looks like to me. I can see the internal threads on the far part, but the nearer part looks actually broken.

Use the metal lathe to make a new sleeve with threads. Make the walls a little thicker. Option 2: look for that threaded sleeve. I highly doubt that is a custom part.

Agreed that I’d need better pics to really figure out a solution. Is he trying to fix it with tools he has, or would he have access to any tools he wants (i.e. in our shop at least)?

If you want to get creative with it and don’t wanna mess with the wiring/internals, you could machine some collars out of brass or something that looks decent to hold the two pieces together from the outside, rather than the inside. Can either drill some holes (avoiding the electronics) in each piece to hold it in place, or cut a slot in it and use some clamping force. Personally I like that solution, but if you want to restore it back to it’s original state then you’d have to figure out something else of course

Fancy looking brass can look good
