What’s New?

Hello there everyone!

It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Asmbly or had a membership, but I’ve been thinking about coming back. I think I was last here in 2022? (Wow time flies)

I was looking at some of the recent posts on the forums here, and was wondering what the latest events are? Is there a new location being built out?

Looking forward to possibly seeing you all soon!

Since 2011 I’ve watched our maker space change.
I can confidently attest that it’s never been better.
Come get reacquainted at an orientation or event.

Note: there’s a Community Social on April 2.

It’s still in the same location, but there was an expansion in 2025! We rented out the space next to us (on the north wall), and turned it into a new space for ceramics, metal shop, a new lobby, and some new rentable office/studio spaces! With the metal shop moving soon, woodshop will get more area as well.

Many new faces, new leadership, new volunteers and volunteer opportunities, etc. The majority of the shop has received a multitude of upgrades, and runs like a well oiled machine (well, perhaps still needs a bit of oil in some places  , but it’s getting attention!)

I agree with @TravisGood, since I joined in 2019 the space has never been better! Come back and check it out!

Just for fun, I thought I’d attach some pics from ATXHS in August 2020 to compare!

Hi Travis! Thanks for responding. I looked at the calendar and it shows the social is on the 2nd (Tuesday) Did the date change, or is that calendar correct?

I was just browsing youtube earlier for some ideas on my first project back and found this video on making a small (ash and walnut) box.

I really like the tilt-top that he made, with a little bit of extra routing. The matching he did was neat as well.

A Tilt-Top Mitered Box You Can Make Today For Pennies in Scrap Wood. Beginners: hone your skills!

I’m a big fan of Quill Woodworks—I like his teaching method, pacing and that he’s a hand tool woodworker.

This project will be a lot of fun and I too love the design of the lid. Best wishes on your build!

Just wanted to clarify that the social will start at 7PM as usual! I believe 830PM is when it usually wraps up. Here’s the post!
