Help @sarahmartin and I play whack-a-mole with dust bunnies once a week. As of now I’m setting the time between 11am and noon on Fridays. We welcome anyone interested and willing to help out, even if it is just once or twice.
Task Requirements:
- It is a 1 to 2 person job
- Dust Mask Required (not provided)
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs (guessed weight of filter door)
- Must be comfortable with heights, or sweeping.
- If you don’t know how to use a scissor lift, we’ll teach you.
About the task:
Total DC downtime should be no more than 15 minutes.
- Lockout the dust collector from turning on, or all tools that turn on the DC
- Use a drill and the provided bit to take off all nuts/washers and open the door.
- Hang pre-set plastic flaps to contain dust
- Shake the 24 filters with a stick and hands (not so sweetly and no so aggressively)
- Use an air hose to blow out the mid-back filters (trust me, not the front).
- Do the above two for about 15 minutes. The filters will not be perfect when done.
- Close the hatch
- Sweep and vacuum all around the DC, under it, the window, and surrounding areas.
One person can do it all, but a second person can tag in to sweep everything afterwards. I don’t recommend sweeping everywhere until the filter cleaning is done.
Post here or send a message to facilities@asmbly.org if you want to try it out!
P.S…
If anyone feels like making some “whack-a-dust-bunny” badges, that’d be cool too.
