Volunteers Needed for the GACA Studio Tour 4/11-4/12

Hi folks!

Asmbly is participating in the GACA Studio Tour and we’re looking for volunteers to help make it happen.

We are looking for general assistance setting up, breaking down, greeting folks, and hosting informal tours of Asmbly.

If you’ve never volunteered with us, there are two main ways to volunteer at Asmbly:

1. Jump in and lend a hand!

As an Asmbly member, cleaning, organizing, assisting with tool maintenance and repairs, and providing event support is very appreciated. Asmbly simply doesn’t work unless the community volunteers their time and talent in some way or another.

2. Join our official volunteer program.
This program is designed for those who want to volunteer more regularly and earn membership perks. To get started, review the details on our Volunteer Wiki. If it sounds like a good fit, just fill out the form on that page and I’ll follow up with you in a few days.

If you would like to volunteer, all you need to do is sign up for a time slot! In any case, we hope you can join in on the fun that weekend. Thanks so much y’all! I hope to see you there!

Here’s more info on what we’re cooking up that weekend:

Thanks to all the folks who have signed up! We still have a lot of volunteer slots to fill, especially on Sunday, 4/12, so I’m bumping this thread.

Leaving longer breakdowns of the volunteer positions here, in case you’re interested!

Greeter

The greeter posts up at the front desk, greets folks coming in, gives them handouts for the event, and points them in the right direction if they have questions about where things are. They may also, depending on how many volunteers sign up, be in charge of the prize wheel. Folks spin the wheel and get free stuff. This is a great position for newer members!

Tour Leader

This tour leader will host informal tours of Asmbly, leading folks through all the different shop areas, answering questions, and, most importantly, talking about what you love about Asmbly. This position requires a bit more knowledge and socializing, but don’t be deterred! The tools do most of the work here. We’re not asking you to host an official orientation or know everything about Asmbly. If folks leave with burning questions, you can always have them pick up a business card from the front desk on the way out.

Event Support

Things happen at big events! People don’t show up for shifts, crowds are bigger (or smaller) than anticipated, and chaos needs to be supervised. It is always incredibly helpful to have an extra person when things don’t go as planned. If all is well, then the event support volunteer is sitting pretty at the prize wheel giving people free stuff! If not, then they’re subbing in for another volunteer position they feel comfortable with. Either way, we appreciate their presence!

Wheel Throwing Activity Supervisor

If you attended last year’s Maker Market, then you’ve seen this in action. We will be setting up the wheels so that folks can throw clay. The volunteer in charge must have some experience in wheel throwing - enough to answer simple questions and instruct total beginners in what to do. If you’ve taken a couple classes, you’re qualified enough for this volunteer position. We just want folks to be safe and have fun. None of the clay thrown will be fired!

We hope you join us for our first foray into the world of the GACA studio tour. Remember that every hour volunteering makes a huge difference at Asmbly, and that volunteering can also earn you benefits. No matter what, we hope to see you there!
