Hello All. There was originally a volunteer workday scheduled for this Saturday in the metal shop, but both Savanna and I have conflicts and can not be there. We discussed having the event overseen by one of our metal shop stewards, but for several reasons we preferred to cancel the event this month. These will continue next month; the next date will be on July 26th.
In lieu of the workday, I am going to host several maintenance teaching events over the next few months. I will perform maintenance on specific machines with the assistance of attendees, who will learn how to perform this maintenance in the process. We will also want a volunteer to take notes and write up a description of the procedures. The result will be a pool of people who have experience in maintaining the machines along with documentation to further teach others.
Now that the metal shop is settling down, we will also be writing up instructions and creating procedures for other regular tasks. Automated notices for these tasks will be set to post to Slack regularly for stewards using the system Robert has created.
We will also have some more painting needs in the next month or so, which I will announce. James will likely also need people to help him in the construction of the enclosure for the Metal Cutting CNC Fiber Laser at some point soon.
And like any shop, we will almost always have things to clean. Mopping near the vicinity of the horizontal bandsaw, Cold Saw, and lathe is clearly going to be an ongoing need. Tables and workspaces also need cleaning regularly. We appreciate any volunteer work you are willing to do for us.
