Using Laguna CNC to create intricate woodcarving?

Asking for help to anyone who thinks they might understand my dilemma. I’m used to carving intricate Mandala woodcarvings by hand, I recently took the cnc router class, but still cant figure out how to properly cut this Mandala out. Any suggestions? My tool paths were too much for the system and crashed every time. Thank you in advance

I would look at figuring out how to make your mandala into more than one vector path. I would try multiple vectors so Vcarve doesn’t crash. Good Luck!

Was your program crahsing generating the gcode, or did you have problems running the gcode on the machine?

What Al and Joe said. If it’s crashing on the controller you can try smaller paths or moving the gcode from your thumb drive to the controller.

I’ve been able to run a gcode program that ran for over 2 hours on our machines.

Off a thumb drive? I’ve never had a failure but others have posted about larger files failing from a drive.

Spectacular work! If you’d care to meet at Asmbly, go over what files you’ve got and what failed, I’d like to help you get your artistry realized. When would be a good time for you? I’m free most afternoons and early evenings.

Given the two-tier nature of these pieces I wonder if a laser wouldn’t be a better tool.

With two contrasting woods you could engrave through the first to create your image.

I don’t recall if I ran directly off the USB or not, but copying the gcode to the controller would be a good idea.
