Over the community workday we took the opportunity to rebuild and upgrade the miter saw table. As many of you know, the ability to rotate the last two miter saws was limited due to the width of enclosure. In addition, the drawers on the top were mostly ignored, in part because the top drawers were a bit challenging for many to actually see into. It’s also seen a lot of use, so many of the boards we relied on for alignment were just plain worn out.
Here are the changes we made:
- Shorten the overall length
- Widen the platform for the saw so that it can be used in ALL positions (Crazy, right?)
- Redesign the platform the saw sits on so that it is still adjustable, but also far easier to clean
- Replace all the work surfaces with Melamine for easier upkeep and less friction
- Remove the upper level drawers and replace it with single top.
- Install adjustable shelving underneath each side for the sleds
- Install t-track on right side as well as the left
- Integrate all vacuum lines to run off the vacuum under the table and disconnect it from the large dust collector.
There is still a little bit of work to be done on it, but we are excited to see it in action. If you have any feedback for more improvement, let us know now.
And many thanks to all those who helped redesign and reconstruct it!
PS. We do know that the integrated dust chute in the saw is prone to clogging up. It’s a really bad design. There is a company that makes after market chutes that has not yet started shipping one for this saw, so we are awaiting it’s availability.
