Update on the new course system at ATXHS/Asmbly

We’ve been working to streamline our class offerings with the intention of making things easier and more predictable for both instructors and students - and to make it possible for us to broaden the courses we offer to the membership-at-large as well as the community.

To that end, we have reinstated our previous 60/40 pay split of the class tuition, but in a slightly different way than was previously done that more benefits teachers.

  • Teachers will be paid a flat rate – Regardless of whether a class is full, teachers will be paid 60% of class tuition assuming a full class of members. ATXHS/Asmbly will keep whatever remains and deduct processing fees from their share.

    • Previously, teachers only received a percentage based on fees collected. This made for more complicated and smaller payouts.
  • Teachers will be paid out twice a month – We have a reporting set up that we’ll run on the 1st and 15th to cut teachers checks on a regular schedule. This part of the process was not well defined in the past and we’ve taken steps to make sure we don’t run into the same issues again.

Important things for students to note:

  • All classes are registered for through your Neon portal – Be sure to login to your portal to sign up for a class (if you aren’t logged in, a new account gets created for you in Neon which can confuse other systems - we’re working on some improvements to this).

  • Class tuition is due at the time of registration – Instructors will no longer collect payment directly from students, instead students will pay through Neon when they register for the class.

  • Refund/Cancellation policy – Refunds are only offered for cancellations made at least 48 hours before the start of a class. If you need to cancel a class you have registered for, simply reply to the registration email to let us know.

  • Anyone can join – You don’t have to be a member to take a class. In the future, we’ll have a small upcharge for non-members, but other than that members and non-members alike are welcome to join any class we offer. You just have to become a member if you want to come back and use our equipment again later

This new system will simplify how classes work at the space for everyone and give back to the space in which they are hosted to make repairs and improvements to equipment.
