Turned segmented vase (finished!)

I don’t even want to know how many hours into this project I am by now :upside_down_face: But! I’m done with the trickiest part and have completed this walnut vase. It came out to 15" tall, consisting of 19 segmented rings + two solid disks for top and foot.

This is inspired by an Alhambra-style vase I saw in a museum recently. I’ve yet to make the “wings” that act sort of as handles – you can see them in the printout that’s stuck on the wall in the photo. I’ll carve those out of maple and will update this thread as I make progress.

Beautiful! I just had an idea for a segmented turning project today, and your vase is inspiring me. Nice job! May have to ask you some questions about it

@doug.squires I absolutely recommend trying turning: it’s somewhat unique in the woodworking space and can produce things that are surprisingly complex and intricate.
