Tile Jack the old Floor

To anyone with construction / demolition, or general “I want to break something” attitude, we could really use some help busting up the tile on the old metal shop floor.

We have a tile jack and used it on a lot of the tile near the old metal shop annex and old project storage area.

It’s easy to operate and we can show you how to do it. This is a major task needed to complete before the woodshop can fully start taking over the open areas.

Reach out to me, @jamesfreeman or another lead and we’ll help you get setup!

It’s not the most glorious task, but truly a job where many hands make light work. Make sure to wear hearing protection while doing it.

I’m happy to help out with that. I have some time Sunday morning or any time during the week.

Great! When will you be in?

Had some energy to burn tonight.

Note to future tile rippers: put tile scraps into the trash cans with wheels. It’ll take at least 2 people to empty a bin full of tile into the dumpster. This section filled 3 whole bins, luckily @phurfphurf was still here to give me a hand

Thank you taylor!

There’s still plenty of tile left to jack, if anyone wants to take a stab at it let me know. I’ll be in everyday this week.

Would love to join this project! I can come by tomorrow during the day or Thursday as well

There’s still more to go, give me a holler if you want to get some rage out.

Our new facilities coordinator @michellewilson getting some!

If anyone has ideas on how to remove this glue from under the white sticky tile, please let us know. There’s a lot of this and wow is it rough to get up.

Hmmmm, likely worth doing some tests with some solvents and acids. I’d wager acetone or muriatic acid would strip that, whatever it is. If we’re using the acid in bulk we’d need to have folks clear out of the shop while it’s being done.

Combine it with a wire brush on the end of a drill and a scraper blade and that should be all that’s needed.

I poured a little bit of acetone on parts of it. I found the bottle in the stewards closet. It might have helped, but I could also have been doing it wrong.
