Thanks Asmbly!

I’m moving away this month and wanted to take a moment to share my appreciation for this community.

When I joined ATX Hackerspace in the midst of COVID, I was amazed to see how this resilient band of makers was navigating hurdles and keeping the flame alive. Then as we merged with Asmbly the space just kept getting better with new programs, equipment, and dedicated volunteers. And now the huge expansion! It has been incredible seeing the growth that’s taken place over the past 4 years I’ve been a member. Through 16 classes and countless conversations I’ve also grown as a maker- going from woodworking to bowl turning, MIG/TIG, machining, CNC, lasers, and more.

To anyone who’s recently joined or is thinking about joining, this is a special place that thrives because of people who show up and make it happen. One of my few regrets about my time in Austin is not being more involved more as a volunteer here. I’ll be following from afar and can’t wait to see where things go next! Special shoutouts to @cfstaley @valerie @David @JoeN @jamesfreeman for all you’ve done/continue to do

Thank you so much @mlemon! It’s been wonderful having you in the community. You were the first volunteer who really took the reigns on creating a solid social media strategy. Although you may feel like there’s a lot more you wanted to do on the volunteer front, know that I’ve often thought about the impact of the volunteer work you have done. Your efforts and initial strategy have definitely played a role in our evolution to where we are today. Thank you for your positive contributions and friendly vibe around the space. I hope to see you again in person before you head out for your next chapter outside Austin! :beers:
