Tarkin Spacer Loose(resolved)

Tarkin Down 0700 on 31 Aug.
The spacer that you use to focus is loose and the machine is putting out two beams. A cut line and an etch about 1/8” offset from the cut. Stopping work to avoid damaging it. Submitted RED Tag in system.

Any update on this? I lost my reservation for this morning, I’d like to get in another time this weekend if possible.

My reservation was cancelled, which makes me wonder, is there any automation connecting the red-tag status to the booking system? Is there any way to look up the machine status remotely? I assume the most up-to-date info will always be found here, but since our systems keep improving I thought it was worth asking.

Fixed. The focal ring wasn’t the origin of the problem. The alignment went a bit off and that heats up the head and the 3D printed ring loosened due to the heat.

I changed to an improved mirror mount design. Still 3D printed, I’m hoping the dimensional instability prob in the first one isn’t inherent for any 3D print. We may need to machine one out of aluminum instead

Thanks for the update, and for all the recent improvements on Tarkin!

Tarkin performance was fine today, however I noticed a few minor issues:

  • “User origin” and “Current position” modes weren’t working properly. When framing, the head would go to the top left corner, or some other incorrect position. I’m not sure if the “origin” button on the remote wasn’t working, I missed some setting that isn’t normally changed, or something else. Absolute coordinates worked as expected, which slowed down my workflow a bit, but I managed.
  • Once, while trying a few different settings combinations, when I started a frame, the head tried to go past the back corner, and it slammed into the physical limit. The onboard error message said “hard Limit Prot”. I have never seen this happen before on Tarkin. I immediately restarted the machine, gave up on getting the origin modes that I wanted working, and switched to absolute for the rest of my session. Afterward I had no issues.

not sure but it’s not a prob with Tarkin’s hardware. i was in several times to use it as have others and this issue never came up.
Maybe a lightburn config somehow. also cycling power the reset the Ruida would be a wise move

Hi Alan,

At the moment, the best way to check if a tool is down is through Skedda. If it’s equipment that can be blocked off, it will be marked as “red tagged.” We try to follow that up with a post on Discourse to share more details.

For general-use tools in the woodshop or metal shop, the status updates are only posted on Discourse.

If we have to red tag equipment and cancel a reservation, we manually email any members affected. Did this happen with your reservation?

Yes, I got a skedda cancellation notification with no details, as well as an email from Michael Leonard informing me that Tarkin was red-tagged.

I guess I was wondering if there might be a way to get notified when the red tag status is resolved.

Right now, the best approach is to check Skedda for updates. We’ll remove the red tag status once maintenance is complete.

I’ll make sure to pass along your comment for future upgrades!
