Hi - I came in to some sandblasting and it looks like there is movement to a new sandblaster? Any timetable on when it will be online? This is my first time since taking the metal shop class, so I am unsure if I missed a place to check status on the sandblaster? Thanks in advance!
@Robe and @phurfphurf are working on it. My assumption is about a week before it is online.
Agree, a week or less! I’m going to put some time in this weekend.
Hi - any status on the sandblaster? thanks in advance!
It is getting close. We are buttoning up the gloves, plumbing, and the light cover. Also testing.
We are also waiting on new light bulbs to arrive.
Hi there - any timeframe the sandblaster getting online? Thanks in advance!!
Sorry I got stuck and then I got busy. I basically have the lights installed. I’m stuck because the fitting to attach the gun are super hard to find. Also they are kind of oddities.
I have to leave town soon for 2 weeks. I will drop off the parts for the gun fittings before I leave
Do you have them already? If not, I can help look or maybe make something.
I started to weld the 2 parts together. Turns out one side is steel. The there side is something weird. Now there there is weld bead on some of threads. I will drop it off
@atwatsoniii i left the parts on top of the cabinet. Sorry there is weld bead on threads.
Let me know if you have any questions?
I have the fittings at home. I have a thread file and will clean up the threads, and see if I can come up with a solution.
I think the fitting is a 1/2 flare. I am thinking that we could just get a flare nut, come out of the gun with copper for a short length to meet the hose, and then use a 1/2 compression to join the copper with the existing plastic hose. That will make a graceful bend instead of having a bunch of adapters right on the gun. In theory..
Sorry, I forgot to send some details. It is a half inch flare. I have a half inch flare, but the other side is wrong on the adapter so if you have a piece of copper tubing and a flare kit, it would make us a lot easier.
Tubing is on the way. I have a flare kit, but I don’t have a bender for 1/2”. If anyone does, that’ll be helpful, otherwise we’ll have to get creative…
There is a bender or two in a box under the brake, I don’t remember how small they get. Smallest was bigger than 3/8”.
We were almost there when the motor self destructed. If we replace that and finish the connection Joe and Al are working on, I think it will be up again.
I’m leaving town soon, so I put all the parts back. The fitting on the gun is restored back to stock. My earlier ideas did not pan out. I now think it might just be easier to get a new gun, and switch over the remaining air fittings to match whatever the hose is (not sure if it would be euro or imperial)
It looks like Jegs also has the gun, and it comes with hoses: https://www.jegs.com/i/Eastwood/334/66296/10002/-1
I’ve also put this link in the purchase request for the new motor (in slack).
Yikes! A lot more work! I’ll work on the CNC until the sandblaster gets back online….
Parts have been ordered but have not arrived yet.
