I was wanting to spay paint some metal displays a different color and i know i need to do things like sand and prime before rustolium it. Is there a space that doesnt require machine use training where i could do this while still be with in the wonderous, glorious sanctuary of air conditioning and no mosquitos similar to the no machine textiles booking option? Or am i sucking it up in the driveway at home?
Edit: more specifically, can i sand metal, using a hand sanding tool in the shop area that should have a general area for it without the general metal workshop safety class if i have zero intention of using any machine and wear all the safety equipment? Or, alternately, the general use room, if i sweep up after myself? I found the part of the wiki that says i can spray paint outside as long as i set up a tarp of some sort to prevent painting the building and sidewalk/parking lot
To add to the question if I may: I don’t even have the luxury of a driveway at home to do any spray painting as I live in a condo. I also have frequently wondered how best to get spray painting done, and look forward with interest to any advice given.
The Member Handbook does address spray painting. Because of the fumes, it should be done outside taking precautions to not get the spray on anything (building, cars, concrete, etc)
Rockler sells an inexpensive spray tent that could be useful depending on your project size and quantity.
As to location for sanding: Hand sanding can be done over our Grizzly H2936 Downdraft Table with the vacuum assisted hand sander. Using the shop space requires a reservation and the woodshop safety class or the metal shop safety. The sanding table is part of the woodshop safety class.
The metal shop safety class addresses use of the abrasive blaster which would be useful for parts that fit into the cabinet. Great for removing paint and buildup on metal parts.
No sanding should be done inside the building other than in The Workshop space with appropriate dust collection methods.
Thank you, that was the heart of my question. How big is the cabnit for the sand blaster on the metal shop side? If that is an option, that sounds efficient since they are smaller or screw together.
I will schedule the appropriate safety class for what fits my schedule
Ty! If it’s the 42 In wide one (based on immage search) all my peices should fit with room! Time to locate a time slot for the class that fits my schedule!
For small items, I keep an IKEA wardrobe that has made a good spray tent. It even has a bar for hanging your things from, and it collapses down to very little storage room. And you can’t beat the price at $13.
There is some mesh at the corners that doesn’t catch all the spray, so be a bit careful or throw some duct tape over the vents.
