Shelves over loaded

Unfortunately, the shelving unit in the back left corner was loaded past its capacity. The walls were bowing out and allowing the shelves to bypass the support clips. As a temporary fix, I grabbed a clamp from the shop and pulled the sides back together. I see two possible easy fixes. One would be to add some screws to fix the location of a shelf near the middle so that the sides are held together. Alternatively, we could add a piece of threaded rod or a wooden beam to serve the same purpose, probably stronger but less attractive. Both ideas limit adjustments to the shelf positions. I’m happy to do either fix. Or you can reduce the load or change out the shelf for a sturdier model. Please let me know if you want me to address it and how.

Thanks for the quick thinking Clay, sorry you had to handle that!

Let’s do whatever we can to stabilize it for the moment. I’ll be in this afternoon and will decide whether we should beef up that shelf while we look for something sturdier. If it’s not in danger of falling apart right this minute, you’re off the hook.

Also, a general reminder for everyone: any time there’s an issue in the space, the best way to report it and get quick help is with the red “report a problem” QR codes, or asmbly.org/problem.
