Settings for Chuck Rotary Tool

Hi, I tried to use the Chuck Rotary Tool today on Dorian and ran into some setup issues and hoping someone can help. I first tried the Roller Rotary Tool but it didn’t work with my particular piece of glass due to the shape.

When I framed my engraving with the settings that are called out in the Big Rotary Syllabus, I found the height (Y axis) was way off in scale.

To recap, I had the following settings in Lightburn Rotary Setup

  • Rotary Type: Chuck
  • Enable Rotary: true
  • Mirror Output: true
  • Steps Per Rotation: 14800
  • Object Diameter: 4” (outer diameter of the piece I was working on)
  • Rotary Axis: Y

After trying a bunch of different settings, I was able to get something reasonably close to the desired size by setting the Steps Per Rotation to 6000 and set Mirror Output to false.

I was trying to fine tune the Steps Per Rotation using the Test button but got all kinds of weird results with that.

Any thoughts on correct settings or where I went wrong when using the Chuck Rotary Tool?

Thanks
Andrew

Plug in which rotary tool you want to use, open rotary setting on lightburn and click “read settings from device”.

Save settings and everything should work without an issue.

Thanks for the response, I will give it a try next time. I saw that button on the UI but for some reason didn’t think it would work.

Might want to consider updating the Big Rotary Syllabus to include how to setup the chuck rotary tool for future users.
