Separating the thread adapter

Are there any tips/preferred tools for separating the thread adapters from a faceplate or chuck?

None of the adjustable wrenches on the tool wall could open far enough to give a good grip on one of the adapter or faceplate. I didn’t see any specific wrenches in the lathe area either.

Hey! There’s a rubber-gripper (green handle, black rubber loop) that can be used to grip the bowl itself. If unable to get this off by hand at this point, you can use an adjustable wrench to grab the adapter.

There should also be pins in the side of the faceplate threads that can be tightened once the adapter is on, preventing it from advancing further. This can be used to prevent this problem. Have the pins gone missing on one of the faceplates?

I have used these two to pull the thread adapters off. I’ve been looking around the shop to see if there is a specific wrench but haven’t come across it. I’ve been meaning to order one to keep at Big Bird and will do soon.

@Rolo Thank you! Having dedicated wrenches will be helpful. I was nervous to use just any old wrenches because I know some of the equipment around the shop has very specific tools which should be used with it.

@drew.hynes The pins were there, I just didn’t know their purpose. I’ll make sure to use them next time!
