Seeking embroidery recommendation :textiles:

Anyone here have suggestions for a good embroidery backing for us to use with the hat press for making embroidered hats? I see a lot of various options on Amazon, but curious if anyone has experience with this and recommends something specific.

@StoneyG do you have any recs on this?

Let me see the thread, I haven’t been on in a while

You would do well with a tear away stabilizer. I purchase mine from WAWAK com hope this helps

Yeah, any medium weight tear-away should be good. I’ve used this: #88-45.7 E-ZEE CAP JUST RIGHT 2.5oz MADEIRA HEAVEY WEIGHT CAP EMBROIDERY BACKING

Awesome, thank you ladies! And that backing would work with the hat press for heat transfer? I think I didn’t make that heat transfer part very clear in my question  We now have 2 hat heat presses at Asmbly (1 that is a dedicated on @jamesfreeman donated), so trying to use that.

Wait wait ok heat press? That wouldn’t require a stabilizer

Oh yeah, good point. If it’s htv, no need for a backing. If it’s embroidery, no need for a heat press

I may need to try to come by so I can see so I can better assist

OK, yeah maybe we can chat about it in person to see if what I’m aiming for is doable. What I’d like to end up with is the Asmbly logo embroidered on a hat and was thinking using the heat hat press with an iron on embroidered patch that we make might be easiest. I’ll be in the space tomorrow afternoon and all day Saturday for work day.

If you’re using an iron-on patch, you have no need to worry about an embroidery backing.

To make the embroidered patch on our machines, then heat press it on, I’d need something tho, right? I was thinking it’d be something like this but does that seem right to y’all?

Ah. That might work if you use the fusible side facing down, yes. It’s usually fused to the base fabric your stitching on.

If the patch was already stitched I would recommend this to adhere it to the cap:
HeatnBond UltraHold Iron-On Adhesive Value Pack, 17 Inches x 5 Yards, White Amazon.com

Aha OK cool thank you! I’ll get some of that stuff as well in.case it needs reinforcement.

Any recommendations on the weight I should go for on that link I sent? The “no show mesh” says lightweight, but in general I’m skeptical on it truly being no show with a navy background. Kinda leaning towards the tear away medium weight.

I think tear away medium should do. They may also have all of this at Joann’s too if you want to grab smaller amounts to try.
