Yep, just a bad carriage bearing. It was moving ok but making a popping sound on one side. I’m very glad this was brought to my attention promptly, this could have damaged the rail if we continued to use it and that would be a different scale of downtime.
The bearings I had on hand as replacements were the wrong size, but Amazon has the right ones.
Weird that the one that went bad went bad on the Y axis. Even in vector, cuts do favor X axis travel overall. When rastering, the X sees hundreds of times more travel than the Y. So I’d expect to see wear in the X axis first, but this was one in the Y.
Amazon just says it’ll arrive Wednesday by 10pm, and it’ll take a few hrs to change them all out and realign the machine.
