The shop compressed air is offline. The compressor keeps turning off spontaneously; I don’t want to keep turning it back on until I understand what is happening. I will try a few things this evening, then bring in the big gun if there’s still an issue. I will also try to set up our small mobile compressor to run the large belt sander this evening, since that is the most popular tool dependent on the compressed air.
It didn’t click in my head until now, but I was in the metal shop early this morning and heard the compressor running more often than it should have been. I was alone in the space and not using air, and it seemed to be running more than when there are multiple people using it.
I found and fixed one problem with the compressor, a broken internal hose. However, this did not resolve the shut-off problem. I will have to work on this more later; the compressed air will remain offline in the meantime.
This means that the large Mill tool changer, the Sand Blaster, the Plasma Cutter, and all other pneumatic tools will not function. However, I have set up our small mobile shop compressor to run the large Powermatic Belt Sander, so that is back online.
Also, the metal shop stewards’ shelf will remain out in the walkway so I can access the compressor area again later.

The compressor status is not clear. I’ve fixed some issues, but they may be symptoms rather than primary causes. And a new problem has suddenly arisen: the second stage air dryer appears to have abruptly failed.
I’m leaving the system on for now, but I’ve left a sign saying not to restart it if it turns off. If the green light is off, please report a problem.
OK, I may understand what is going on. It’s currently running; time will tell if this will persist.
In the meantime, the small mobile backup compressor has developed a leak and cannot be used. facepalm If the main system goes down again, we will try to borrow some others temporarily.
This appears to be resolved. If you find it off in the near future, go ahead and restart it but also report it.
