As the year ramps up and we’re getting closer and closer to the holiday gift making season, spots will fill up. Book early to make sure you have a reserved space, however please honor that reservation to the best of your ability.
Things happen! Schedules change and plans shift. Before a booking officially starts, it can be edited or canceled. Please remember to do this when able so others can take advantage of the time. If it is after the start time you can contact your workspace leads. Workspace leads and stewards are all volunteers, so responses timelines may vary, however at least from a booking perspective it would go a long way to communicate changes.
At the moment there are 8 reservations in the woodshop (all general spaces, artisan space, lathe) and only one person is here.
Even after your slot has started you can still cancel the remainder of your reservation. It will free up the spot at the next 30 minute increment. This is useful if you can’t make it or if you finish up earlier than expected, though though the second never seems to happen for me!
Most of my bookings have a follow up 30 minute “this didn’t go as planned” booking as well.
I try to be diligent about ending early in skedda. I’ve wondered in the past if there was a way we could implement booting someone’s booking. I’ve been on Dorian at times when Tarkin is booked but no one is there and thought “how can I claim this booked and unoccupied machine?”
Totally endorse this concept. The CNC has been heavily booked in recent weeks, but on many occasions it has has stood idle because the person who booked it did not use their booking. People are reluctant to use the CNC, while it is standing idle, in case the person who booked it turns up later. If the person who made, but did not turn up to use the booking, cancelled their booking, it would potentially give others the chance of using the machine. (Also true of other booking spaces). I know. I have been in that position several times in the last 2 weeks.
In general, I really appreciate the high level of consideration that ASMBLY members have for one another. This is just another way to express such consideration.
I feel like the members who likely most need to see this probably aren’t on Discourse that frequently.
Is there a way for Alta Open to communicate with Skedda? Like an API if/then where if you don’t access the facilities within a certain amount of time (25 mins?) past your booking start time or adjust your booking, then your booking is automatically cancelled?
