I am looking for recommendations for someone who could make a high quality, custom designed pendant. It will be about 2 -2.5 inches diameter, made from gold and with some precious stones (emerald or small diamonds) embedded.
I have a relative who wants to have this made as a present for his wife, and he asked me to tap into the great depth of knowledge of people at asmbly. He has a design in mind, so is looking for someone who can do a one-off manufacture of the object.
I can do a lot. But some thoughts- this size, in 14k gold, would be extremely expensive.
Likewise for precious stones and settings. Could go into 5 figures easily.
IMHO, not only over-the-top expensive, but it would be hard to avoid turning out gaudy.
Sterling would be much cheaper. Gold plating would be cheaper too, but probably still gaudy, esp when pairing with diamonds, emeralds, or look-alike equivalents. Semiprecious stones, dichroic glass, mineral cabachons like tiger eye, lapis lazuli, abalone shell are much classier. Going with the recipient’s birth stone is often a good option, well, if they’re not April/May/July.
Brass, esp antiqued brass, is quite strong and versatile, can look stunning with peridot, garnet, tourmaline, topaz, endless options.
