Reclaim buckets?

Looks like there are now 2 buckets where folks are putting scraps, are those for reclamation? If so, what’s the process going to be like? If I’m putting scraps in to be reclaimed, will I eventually get to use the reclaimed clay?

Hi!, excellent questions! @winnie and I are getting this worked out this week and I will make sure to post about it here once it is all worked out. For now it is just a communal recycling bucket, and we are not yet sure about the reuse/redistribution side of it. If you want to reuse you own clay, I would suggest for now keeping it in a bag or bucket on your shelf.

Reclaim buckets are ready and labeled! There is a set under each shared tool area.

Please put only clay scraps, trimmings, and broken (unfired) clay in here. No water and no glaze. I’m still figuring out if we want to do a slop bucket, but for now, just mostly dry clay please.

The plan right now is to offer the clay for free to folks who volunteer to do the reclaim process with me since it’s very labor intensive. We’ll collect scraps, dry them out fully to ensure they rehydrate evenly, reconstitute them with throwing water/slop or just water, let it fully rehydrate, spread out the wet clay onto plaster boards, then when it’s dry enough wedge, forever.

If you would like to keep all your own scraps and do your own reclaim, I’m happy to give some advice on how to do it yourself. Don’t feel pressured to put your scraps into the communal reclaim if you’d prefer to recycle your own clay.

Hey Chris,

@NickE pointed out that the fully hashed out process was not shared here. It’s on the wiki now and if you have any questions, feel free to let me know!
