Greg Williams and I shall be conducting a test/demo raku fire on July 27th, a Sunday. The preference is that you bring bisque works made of raku clay. We will fire other clays, but be aware of the fact that they might not survive the shock of the process. Some specialty glazes will be provided, as well as a few odd feathers, flowers and hair. Feel free to bring flowers, horsehair and other items along if you wish to incorporate them into your work. This is going to be a blast!
Very excited for this!
So excited!
Also-- if anyone wants to split a bag of Raku clay, I’ll pick some up at Armadillo but probably won’t use the whole thing.
I’ll take some! I will be at the Ceramics SIG this Sunday if you wanna split it there.
I could split with you just let me know what I owe you. Also do we need to sign up somewhere for demo?
Will also likely be at sig
Great-- I’ll try to be at the SIG. If not, I’ll look for your shelf and leave it there with a note, if that works for you? How many lbs would you like?
I dont have a shelf. If you don’t make it to the SIG I’ll just go buy some of my own. Gotta get the pieces bisqued before the raku.
Ended up getting 25lb today since i needed to go to armadillo anyway.
I’ll try to bring a few extra things if you want to try one.
If anyone needs/wants Raku clay-- let me know. I have way too much now!
I might be interested. Been thinking of upgrading to ceramics membership soon. I’ll message you this week to coordinate!
If you are around the studio from 8:00-3:00 Monday, Wednesday or Friday hit me up for a chunk of raku clay!
I have 7LBS of Raku clay wrapped in plastic with “Raku” written on it, on my shelf. Anyone is welcome to use it.
I’ve got about 10 lb leftover if anyone wants some. Also happy to bisque fire any pieces anyone wants to make sure are ready for this weekend!
Having some extras bisque fired for the demo seems like it’d be nice. Is the idea with the event that we let people use raku glazes and materials on pieces that are then fired during the event time? Trying to make sure I understand the details correctly and share the right info with others
We’ve been handing out raku clay to members to have items ready to fire and we have our abandoned works to contribute as well. I have a few raku specific glazes and the Jungle Gems and Stoneware glazes we have on hand also have interesting raku properties. I’ve been collecting some feathers and will be picking some flowers the day of. I have been talking all of this up with people in the studio. Horsehair, feathers, flowers are all good things to bring.
I’m bringing some golden doodle hair
Yes pieces must be bisqued and ideally be made of Raku clay. I’m going to sacrifice one piece of cinco blanco to see what happens.
