Prusa XL - TPU inquiry

Hey all,

I’d love some help with dialing in the Prusa XL to work with TPU. Running 95A TPU through the Filament Sensor + tight Idler Tension Screws results in unsuccessful loading of the filament.

Prusa has a TPU prep blog post and they recommend loosening the idler tension. Prusa Docs - How to adjust idler screw tension.

Prusa Forum threads also share the key to getting TPU is to loosen the Idler + Bypass the Filament Sensor.

I’ve gathered the objective is to reduce the resistance on this flexible filament as much as possible.

How may I meet with a FDM Printing Steward and work on this together? Any help is appreciated! I don’t want to wrench on the Prusa XL without approval / without a Steward.

Thank you, Blake

Interesting. I’ve had no trouble printing with this in the past, with no adjustments: Overture 95A TPU

If you demonstrate to a steward that you can change and restore the setting, I think it’s fine to make this change, provided:

  1. You must put a (physical) yellow tag on the printer, explaining what has been done to which extruder(s). Yellow tags can be found on the front of the Prusa enclosure
  2. You must return within your reservation to claim your print and reset the setting

What kinds of times are convenient for you to meet with a steward? I could stop by Thursday or Friday evening.

Hi Aneel

Are you available to meet sometime after 6pm on Friday (May 2nd)?

I’ve booked the XL between 6p-10p on Friday

Overture! Coincidentally, I’ve got the Overture White TPU 95a, but mine is not highspeed. Hearing that you didn’t need to adjust anything is reassuring. I’d love to take a second look with you.

Yes, I can swing by this evening around 8.

Hi @aneel, sorry looks like my edit did not update? Are you available Friday evening?

Yeah, Friday works.
