Prusa XL Overheating MCU

For all XL users,
Just a heads up when using the XL. I had relatively short & simple print going, but after ~1 hour, I received a message that the MCU was overheated and the printed had paused. Everything looked great up to that point.

I had the 3DP enclosure doors closed, and the other three printers were actively printing. It was pretty warm when I opened up the doors to check the warning/failure. (all 3 MK3S printers are continuing to run great.)

After a quick search, it seems the MCU will need to cool down before the printer is ready to print again. I have since discontinued my print and hopefully everything will cool down for the next user. I don’t think this is necessarily a red tag event.

I’ll try again another time, but want to make sure others are aware of this possibility.

The higher ambient temp inside that cabinet shouldn’t be that significant.

More likely the fan inlet or outlet is blocked by something, or the fan’s not working, or the heatsink isn’t attached. Or there’s debris in the heatsink fins.

Thanks for reporting this. We’ve been seeing a lot of failures on the XL that seem temperature-related. When it is the only printer printing it does well, but if a couple of the MK3S+ printers are going, and particularly when they’re printing with filaments like ABS, we’re seeing a lot stuck filament warnings and hearing reports of clogs. Danny may be correct that there is a fan problem.
