Proper way to sled round material through bandsaw

This is a great example of how to properly secure round stock prior to running it through the bandsaw. Note the flat base to prevent it from rolling to the side. Also the block at the end to give it even more stability. The sled is usually sacrificed as part of the cuts.

Due to the size, this was a two man job. Your project may also require using a second person to safely move it through the blade. Plan accordingly.

What material are the fasteners made of?

Standard metal screws. You have to be aware of their location so as not to damage the blade.

That’s insane, would have loved to been there for that. Any pics of the end results?

Sorry, no.

Here’s a picture of it when it was cut down to a 4x4

The main thing this technique gives you is 2 perpendicular reference edges. The 2x6 gives a flat guide to glide against the fence while cutting. Once you get the first one you flip the cut side flat with the 2x6 and repeat. Once you got that you can remove the 2x6 and cut it directly using the fence so you dont have to cut through your “sled”
