Pioneer Farms Fourth of July Event (on July 1 & 2)

Our nearby neighbors at Jourdan-Bachman Pioneer Farms are hosting an event for the 4th. Looks pretty neat: Redirecting...

Experience star-spangled living history festivities at Pioneer Farms on Saturday, July 1, featuring new exhibits, an 1800s magic show, live music, and 19th-century games that are sure to entertain — just like the days on the Texas frontier.
The special event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to beat the Texas summer heat! Regular admission applies.
An 1800s cannon show, Wild West reenactors, a 19th century magic show, a hatchet-throwing demonstration and special appearances by famous TV and movie cowboy actors Dean Reading, Tommy Worrell, and Gary Clarke will be featured at this year’s star-spangled Independence Days at Austin’s Pioneer Farms.
The red-white-and-blue program on Saturday and Sunday, July 2 and 3 will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., to beat the Texas summer heat!
A separately ticketed Independence Dance featuring Sundown At Morning will be held from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday, July 2. Tickets for that special event are now on sale.
There will also be artisans and pioneering demonstrations at our 1800s history sites — including sneak previews of our ongoing reconstruction of an 1850s stone blockhouse and the 1890s Dodson Farmhouse, home to one of Texas’ Freedom Colony leaders after the Civil War.
The 1800s magic show of Professor Cornelius Marvel (a.k.a noted reenactor Chris Walden), with Ms.Felicity Carmichael, will be staged at 10 a.m. and Noon. Historical reenactments will include cannon firings by artillery historian Leo Bush and frontiersman Leonard Lay.
The Celtaire String Band will play 1800s music in our historic Wessels dance hall. The Street Sweets dessert truck will offer goodies for sale in our town square, where an authentic 1800s chuckwagon will be on display for visitors to see. Food and drinks will be on sale each day.
