Picture framing professional (for tutorial)?

Austin School of Furniture is hosting a “free” class on a style of floating frame that’s good for canvases.

@jiggliemon demoed this style of floating frame at Asmbly a while back. I made this frame following Chase’s design:

Is that black piece rabbeted into the walnut?

No. In this case just attached with some brads. If we had more time, it would have probably been attached with glue as well.

Post-finish, the brads show clearly on mine, but that gun sure did save time. For myself, I’d probably route the bottom to inset the frame, using splines if that still didn’t feel braced enough.

First photo is the unfinished frame.

Also paint the inner frame after cutting/before attaching to outer frame. In the strong sunlight, you can see my attempt to sharpie away the seam. It wouldn’t be visible in the final product but still bugs me.
