Hey everyone!
This idea was brough up by multiple people during the Social hour this week, so @JohnWickham and I have been talking about potentially putting together a PCB Design Workshop at ASMBLY, and before we start planning anything, we’d love to gauge interest from the community.
The idea would be to walk through the full process of creating a simple microcontroller-based circuit using KiCad, starting from the schematic and ending with a finished PCB layout ready to order through PCBWay (just because it’s easy and cheap)
Topics would likely include:
-
Basic schematic design
-
Component design and selection
-
PCB layout fundamentals
-
Routing and board organization
-
Generating manufacturing files
-
Ordering boards online
We’d be using KiCad since it’s open source, powerful, and very aligned with the ASMBLY spirit.
One thing we’re still figuring out is the experience level of interested people. Depending on interest, we could tailor the workshop toward beginners with no electronics experience at all, intermediate users with breadboard experience, etc.

Feel free to reply here as well with what you’d like to learn or build.
