What’s the dust collection setup for the panel saw, and if there isn’t one, what’s the clean-up expectation?
Dust collection is you + broom, basically just a circular saw on a string
I used it yesterday for two quick cuts and ended up cleaning a significant part of the back wall. Could not tell if that was the panel saw, CNC exhaust, or both. It’s a great tool, but I’d be inclined to use the table saw if at all possible and not have to clean up someone else’s extensive leftovers.
Is there a project to add dust collection that I could help with?
Is this effective? Dust Kit - Safety Speed Manufacturing
It’s not used all that much and from my understanding the current DC situation is pretty maxed out in terms of ducting and meaningful airflow to the stuff we already have connected
I use it to take sheet goods down to a more manageable size to then run thru the table saw
The extended solution also involves a broom: whack the people who don’t clean up their panel saw dust with one. Seriously, people have gotten very lax about cleanup there. That area also has an odd tendency to accumulate orphaned wood pieces. Those and the panel cart and dollies interfere with cleaning up; we may want to find a better place for the latter, then try policing the area for a while.
I think that dust kit with a dedicated shop vac and switch would help a lot. 4" dust collection isn’t really suitable to that machine without a fair bit of tinkering.
I am willing to donate the kit + vac if someone will help me get it working. That much dust in the air can’t be good for the big blue filters. Or lungs.
the smaller dust collector right there ought to be capable of handling both the Swift and the Panel Saw…I have the same DC split multiple ways and handling my entire garage shop…
Also willing to provide labor if using the existing nearby DC is the desired solution.
No, don’t use the CNC dust collector. the panel saw dust port is small and the kit hose small-diameter - it needs a high-static-pressure solution like a shop vac or festool-style extractor.
I think that’s a reasonable workday project if folks can’t get to it sooner. Before committing, let’s figure out where the vac should live and confirm the kit hose is long enough.
If we don’t have an ivac-style standalone vacuum switch in inventory I think I have one I can contribute.
I started a project to make a dust boot and port for vacuuming. I haven’t had time to work on it. If someone wants to finish welding it. I’m fine with dropping it off
