Open Flames- banned in shop, allowed outside?

Does the open flame rule apply only to inside the shop? Lets say I want to work on some titanium in the metal shop, but have a bending operation that requires an open flame to heat it up. If I leave the torch and fuel in the bed of my pickup and only do the heating and bending, is that fine?

We offer a blacksmithing class in the parking lot with open flames, and in the past members have used foundry furnaces for casting outside. I think the bed of your truck is fair game.

Evan is on it here!

No open flames in the shop.

Outside the shop, just make sure it’s clear to folks to not to cross paths with your flames.

Have fun!

One of the advantages of the metal shop move is that we may be able to allow open flames to a certain degree. We will let everyone know once we have the details worked out.
