Problem reports and tool concerns do not fall on deaf ears.
We recently received an anonymous problem report about the table saw blade being dull, with the expectation that no one is listening. I have changed it out today with one that came back from a batch of freshly sharpened blades.
I changed it out because this is not the first time I’ve heard of the blade getting dull.
The blade in place is a general purpose blade. If there are specific kerfs or cuts you are looking for, I recommend bringing your own blade. If enough people need or desire something specific here then we can absolutely accommodate it!
I’d also like to properly introduce myself to the forums here as your new facility coordinator (as of August). Some of y’all have met me in the workshop, but for those who haven’t, I’m here to support! My job is to hear, listen, prioritize, and take actions on maintaining, improving, and generally supporting our spaces, tools, and members. There are no shortage of maintenance tasks large and small that need to occur in this heavily used workspace. And I’m not talking about just the woodshop. You will see me walking around regularly, and if you do please say hi if you need assistance, be that with a project or maintenance curiosity, or to tell me there’s an issue, I’m here to listen and take action.
There are also shop leads in each workspace that are there to support tasks like these, and I am here to also support those leads.
If you feel that your concerns and thoughts are falling on deaf ears, reach out to me or your shop leads directly. If there is something you would like to do to help, we can support you with resources from Asmbly.
Remember, this is your workshop as much as it is ours. This place was built on volunteers dedicating their free time to growing the space. As much as I would like to accomplish every concern immediately, I’m only one human with a long list of things to do. If there’s anything you would like to do to help, reach out and I will get you the resources you need.
To the members that reported the dull blades, thank you.
