Hey. I want to learn some basic welding skills. I don’t see any stick welding classes - is that because it is better to start with mig?
We weren’t set up for stick welding in the old space. We plan to do that in the new space, but we are still just settling in. Watch for updates.
Just as Ethan said, we’re hoping to get a stick welding class started soon but otherwise I’d suggest starting with the Mig class!
I don’t know stick, but I can say reviews from folks that know both practices tend to say Mig is a bit easier to get started with, quite versatile and great for hobby projects or artwork.
If you’re looking to find out if it’s right for your needs, I’m running Mig classes no Thursday mornings. It’d be a great way to get started and at least some practice with welding.
What kinds of projects do people want to do with stick welding at Asmbly? Structural connections?
I am interested in trying stick welding specifically for plug welding these tight corners (acute angles) in tubing clusters. These photos illustrate what I mean:
There are methods to do this with TIG too, but stick is another option
Structural steel connections is one of my interests. That was why I was interested in stick welding.
I’m interested in stick welding for structural steel applications and in working outdoors in windy conditions
