Hey all, I’m excited to announce a new class offering - Leatherworking: Stamping and Tooling Techniques! Thanks @Lori for your work in developing and teaching this class!
In this hands-on class, students will get a practical introduction to the art of leather stamping and tooling. Perfect for beginners or anyone looking to refresh their basic leatherworking skills, this workshop guides participants through the essential techniques of tooling and dyeing. Each student will create a custom wristband from pre-cut leather, which they’ll finish and take home at the end of the session.
After completing this course students should be able to :
- Identify the different types of leather and their characteristics
- Understand the various tanning processes and their effects
- Select the appropriate leather for tooling projects
- Recognize and use essential leatherworking tools correctly
- Distinguish between tooling, stamping, carving, and embossing techniques
- Prepare leather properly before beginning any tooling work
- Differentiate between dye, stain, and paint, and know when to use each
- Explore the uses of antique gels and Pro Resist, and how to apply them
- Apply dye, stain, and paint techniques to personalize leather
