After a few stumbles on my part, I logged in and was able to follow along with what Zack Simpson (@zack.simpson) had shown us at the CNC SIG on Sunday about his new CAD/CAM site. I created a two layer design. The top was a maple leaf and the bottom was a low-res bunch of vines, both were selected from his sample files. I used all the default parameters, such as, 10" x10" x 0.75" in inch units. The floor was 0.125" high, the vines were 0.25" high and the maple leaf was 0.75" high.
After a few attempts I was able to cut this design into a scrap piece of finished plywood. Note, I had to set the feed to 5000 ipm min and 6000 ipm max to have it cut at a descent speed (I think our Laguna IQ might be treating the feed as mm/min, but I could be wrong). Afterwards I created a VCarve file to cut its profile out of the 12" x 18" stock that I had used. Overall it probably took about 30-45 minutes to cut.
Bottom line, I was able to use his nifty new program to easily produce a two layer design using his sample images. I’ll bring my results to the next CNC SIG for show-and-tell.
