I had thought the bright red reflective warning tape would suffice to make the point, but apparently not. I’ve since added another label which I will repeat here: place nothing within the milling machine zone!
And especially do not jam trash cans under the x-axis auto feed! Doing that could easily damage the wires running to that or the table’s drainage tube. (I can hardly believe that needs saying, but someone has done this several times.)
That would likely interfere with moving that work table, which is most often used there but is also used for the Tormach and elsewhere in the metal shop. It’s something to keep in mind if the problem recurs.
For me, the intent would be more visually obvious if there where also angled lines filling in the space. Otherwise it looks to me like markings for where a mobile thing is supposed to be returned.
Yeah, I had it that way with the white tape. I was being sparing with the fancier tape, but we have plenty left. I’ll try that. (I don’t think we need to go all the way to wallpaper. )
I guess your post just confused me…I see that table inside the red taped area which is also where I’ve seen the garbage can. So, it’s ok to put things inside the red area next to the stairs? I’m clearly confused
I’ve never seen trash cans in the (now) blue area, as 95+% of the time, the Metal Shop Mobile Table is there. That is its default location, though it will be moved from time to time for use in other areas, particularly near the Tormach. The blue area should be kept clear so that the mobile table can be easily returned there, but finding other things in that area is merely an inconvenience.
The red zone is the range of motion of the the mill. Anything there is a hazard to operating the mill and must be removed. Even then, I didn’t say anything until someone repeatedly wedged a trash can under the mill’s precision table itself, very obviously risking damage.
