We should have the last few items of basic infrastructure in the new metal shop completed within a day or two. So it’s time for the next step: the move!
We will likely begin moving items as early as Thursday night. I expect that we will move the large items on Saturday. But there are a lot of other things to do alongside of this. A number of things will need painting. Tools will be re-organized. And in particular, I want every last bit of wood dust blown, vacuumed, and/or wiped off of every tool when it’s moved. And there are many dozens of small items for every big machine. Saturday will be an all-hands-on-deck moment; please come and help out for a while if you can. Many hands will make light work of this.
After the move, there will still be a lot to do. I have a wide array of quality-of-life improvements planned for almost every part of the metal shop. (I had hoped to implement these alongside the move, but several circumstances have conspired to make that impractical.) So there will still be projects to work on periodically, like the installation of the welding ventilation (whenever it actually arrives; we can’t even get an ETA. ). Plus, we will then begin construction of the the fiber laser and laser welder installations.
The plan for Thursday is to move the welding area mainly, as well as some final electrical work. I will be there by 6:30 pm if not earlier. Let’s officially kick off the move at 7 pm.
I also have a lot of painting, both brush and spray, for people to do.
One note: I’ve included Sunday as a work day, but we really hope to make that just a minor mop up day after the main move.
We have accelerated the move for a number of reasons, but chief among them is that I am currently planning to travel out of town to deal with a family emergency next week. (Nothing is certain yet though.) Saturday will probably be the last day I can be present in the shop until after April 9th.
I can’t make it tonight but will probably end up with a couple hours free during the day today. Any painting/move prep/cleaning tasks I can do before you arrive?
Absolutely! And as it turns out, I am here now. But simply put: the sheet metal storage rack needs to be cleaned of oil and spray painted black; everything you need for that is there. The boards lying flat on the ground nearby need another coat of primer. And a whole bunch of other things will need priming soon too.
