Hey, I’m looking for the member who has done some public art installations. A couple of people have mentioned there is someone who may be able to discuss this topic with me. Coffee on me for some of your seasoned advice. ![]()
I’m excited to learn who all in our community has done this ![]()
I know @Jordanva2 just did a popup one at SxSW this year for the city of Tulsa! There are a few pics on her website VE Laser Portfolio – Varat Enterprises
I’d never seen Jordan’s site. Very nice!
Can’t speak to their availability, but here are some members:
I’ve done a few smaller budget projects with Austin Museum and Cultural Programs. DM me if I can answer any questions. I think there was a team from Asmbly that did a Fortlandia installation at the Wild Flower Center.
Well, don’t like coffee, not seasoned, but Caroline has a rather nice display at the airport and other public places and glad she responded. I have not seen her in the shop in a while. Felipe has very modern techniques as well as Jordan. All three should give you your coffee’s worth :)! The only thing I’ve done “public” is all the pieces for the memorial of the fallen soldiers at Fort Hood (now Fort Cavazos) and that cannot be classified as art and most people do not have access to it.
I am interested in doing an installation piece at the airport. I’m still working through the design. I’ve been looking into public art grants, etc. Still researching…
Do you have any experience with getting funds to help you produce the art?
No experience, but the city of Austin has a lot of help for artists, mostly music though.
Hi Stephanie!
I’ve gotten a few smaller grants from the city of Austin. I’ve recently had some temporary stuff at the airport. The person in charge of funding for art at the Airport is Constance White. She is new. I understand there will a few public art calls for art at the airport in the coming year. Dougherty Center has a class for artist that want to apply for public art funding. It is taught by staff of AAIPP. I took it several years ago and found it very helpful and good for connections. What kind of art do you do? I’d be happy to meet for coffee sometime!
That’s great information. Thank you. Yes, I would love to have coffee. I have recently left my job at Whole Foods, so my schedule is pretty flexible. Let me know about your availability.
The project I am currently working on is a kinetic bat and bridge mobile. I believe I have the design of the bridge nailed down. I am working on the bats. It is my artistic rendering of the Congress Ave. bridge with people silhouetted across the top.
My vision is to have a very large scale mobile hanging over the baggage claim area at the airport. It’s a lofty goal! I am also wanting to make versions of it for local hotels, possibly apartment leasing offices, etc. There will be a home size and a desk size as well.
I love your art by the way. Jose showed me your site the other day at Asmbly. Let me know when we can grab coffee soon!
Sounds like a cool project!!! DM me at CarolineWalker1@gmail.com
