Hi All - I have quite a bit of media blasting to do on pieces with a fair amount of surface rust.
I have two questions: 1) is the media blaster currently operational? and 2) Do I need to change out the media after blasting a lot of rusty pieces?

Hi! The media blaster is operational. I’ve used it for a couple pieces after fixing it and the seals and dust extraction is working well (but please let me know if you see any dust egress). The only thing you need to pay attention to is the media that spills when you open the door — please clean that up when you’re done.
As long as the blast media is working, there’s no need to change it. The Aluminum oxide in there is new so you should get plenty of use out of it. We currently don’t have any backup media, so I’ll make sure some of that is ordered.

Sorry to hijack the thread. It seems to be resolved.
JD Murphy was kind enough to buy a better abrasive cabinet. The amount is $250. I’m going to donate $25 to the project. I think the users who will get use out of it should donate some money.
The light industrial cabinet is pretty spacious with a clam shell front for larger parts. It might need a dust collection/separator unit later on. We might need to crowd fund that.

I believe we can pay for this out of the metal shop budget quite readily.
