I am signed up for Tarkin today and want to buy several sheets of 2’x4’ 1/4” ply to cut, but I don’t know for sure there’s available stock at the space.
Is there an online count of inventory or available plywood?
If there’s NOT wood stocked in the laser room, is there more otherwise stashed away and who would I need to talk to?
99% of the time we’ve got stock. Unfortunately the panel saw has been out of commission for a while now which has stopped me from being able to restock the laser room with suitably sized sheets of plywood.
@Rolo any idea when the panel saw will live again?
Panel saw needs some consideration. There’s no great place to have it set up permanently at the moment unfortunately. For a temporary fix, it can be moved out from the wall, preferably with the garage door open and the panel saw back to it to cut the wood.
Full disclosure, it has not been the top of my priority list to get this one figured out. I built 11 of my cabinets on it so I have some sentiments for it. @Johnvaughn@Glory2God and I could use a hand figuring out the best way to reincorporate it.
Maybe a better mobile base that helps move it out when it’s needed?
I’m a big fan of Lowes Patriot Timber Products Revolution Ply 5mm 4x8 $30. They make 2 cuts per sheet for free, which sounds like it would make buying easier. It cuts cleanly and very consistently. It’s unusually strong and I left some scraps outdoors and they got rained on and baked in the sun for almost a whole year before breaking down. The shaved veneer stack faces are different- it’s intended to be stainable appearance-grade faces on both sides, and always completely defect-free (no knots) due to its shaved-stack veneer. The look is different though, it’s not for everyone, but no aesthetic ever is.
Evenly dividing the 8 ft length into 3 pieces 812mm, and 4 ft is 1219mm.
Moreover, it’s been a consistent product. 100% plantation grown (consistent tree species and growth type), shaved-stack facing has no defects, been using the same glue that lasers well.
Tarkin is 1.6mx1m, Dorian was a 1.3m x 0.9m but has been modified and the 0.9m Y doesn’t have full travel anymore, I don’t recall the exact number, but it’s a bit less.
So 1219mmx812mm is a good general fit for either. Call in the order ahead of time with the 2 cuts into 3 pcs for each, and they should have a stack ready for pickup that one person can handle and doesn’t necessarily require a truck
