Magic paint

Painted the house and garage with the same paint, but you can’t tell. The triangle scrap board in two of the pictures is the same board. Paint on triangle board matches exactly on paneling or garage door when placed next to them. Can’t be an issue of metal vs wood since the wood scrap matches both. Rather mind boggling.

Famous illusion: the main color in the squares marked A and B are the exact same color. (You can verify this in any image editing program; they are RGB #787876.) Our brain interprets the surroundings as shading and adjusts our perceptions accordingly.

So it’s not the Magic Paint so much as Magic Brain!

Edited to make sense

It looks really nice Shane. I’ve recently been replacing some of the siding, fascia and soffits on my house. I’d never make any money doing this kind of work for other people because I’m too much of a perfectionist. It takes so much time.

The hardest part of the job is choosing a color. Way too many choices and I don’t even care about color. But you’ve got to think about resale value. My next house is going to be purple. Easier to find when friends come over.

So now I need to paint the garage doors but they are metal. You can’t use the ‘exact’ same exterior latex on metal can you?

I’m being a perfectionist as well. I ended up having to do this because when I did it 12 years ago we used a cheap siding and the “primer and paint in one”. Don’t ever use that.

This siding came primed but I didn’t know how long ago it was made nor how good a primer was used. I primed it with two coats rolled on as recommended and then sprayed the paint. All cut edges were painted as well before installation. I found that pre-painting the siding makes it FAR easier than having to paint after installation. Just requires touch ups after install.

The paint I used is fine for wood or metal. Just a standard latex with a good primer. I am using Sherwin Williams highest quality paints. $100/ gal, but I expect it to last a long time. The Primer is like $30-$40/ gal.
