Looking for thin acrylic scraps for pseudo-stained-glass project

I’m making a small “stained glass” window piece. I don’t have quiiiite enough acrylic lying around, so figured might as well ask if anyone has scraps you’d be willing to part with. Happy to pay a reasonable price.

Ideally, looking for oceanic colors in translucent/transparent – the design is a sea turtle, so blues, greens, teals, etc would be nice. I would love to find some iridescent pieces, like Delvie’s lists here. Darker colors and/or opaque could create nice accents, too. Really quite flexible.

3mm would be a perfect thickness, but design is also flexible there.

I’ll buy new if I need to, but the overall design fits into approximately 14"x25", and is make out of lots of small bits, so scrap seems perfect.

We may be able to actually cut the glass for stained glass on Tarkin.

You’re not supposed to be able to do that, but I’ve seen it done on Red. It’s a matter of doing a score line over and over to deepen it, then one final slow pass that makes enough heat to crack it along the score. You can cut concave edges.

It would be benefit from special use settings like Overcut

Oh, I’m definitely interested in trying that at some point.

For this project, acrylic is the appropriate material, though. Among other reasons, I’m basically using this as a prototype for a much fancier glass-and-fine-wood version.

I put a piece of 1.8 mm two way mirror acrylic in the laser scrap bin this week. Its a 17 cm edge pentagon. Might be useful for you, its still there when I looked today. Has blue film on it. Not sure what your timeline is but ill be have some black and 2447 (translucent white) acrylic scrap in a few weeks too.

Hmm, the shiny pentagon bit might be perfect for a particular part of the design, thanks! I’ll try to stop by the shop this weekend and see if it is still there.

Black probably won’t fit so well into this design, but maybe. My timeline is to start cutting next week and finish by May 25. It’s a bit ambitious in between lots of other projects right now, but hoping to pull together something pretty.
