Are there any places nearby where I can walk into a store and buy filament (probably PLA)? The slide deck mentioned “Austin 3D Printing Supply”, but Google Maps says it’s permanently closed, and the photos make it look like it’s the same as the 3D Fuel place that closed a few months ago.
Theres a microcenter in dallas and thats the closest place i can think of.
I’d like to know too if there’s any.
Fry’s used to, but they died.
3D fuel closed down a few months ago (it was a storefront for the filament manufacturing facility and warehouse)
JoAnn Fabric used to sell 3D printers and filament but they stopped…
Apparently GameStop used to sell it but at nearly twice the price.
Amazon has several same-day delivery/pickup filament options within Austin though.
I’ve only used Amazon.
Reviving this thread to ask: What brands of filament do you recommend for beginners?
I had someone from orientation who’s completely new to 3D printing ask for recommendations, and I’d love to hear your thoughts!
We have had consistently good results with PolyMaker brand PLA. We printed all of the fidget toys in that and had no filament-related problems. I’d definitely recommend starting with PLA before exploring other materials.
Also, to follow up on the original topic, this place has opened: https://www.buildvolume3d.com/
I haven’t been there personally yet, but others from Asmbly have and have been favorably impressed.
I buy elegoo brand. They have consistent quality and i prefer cardboard spools.
