I need to laser-cut a 100 mm × 100 mm × 0.1 mm(or thicker upto 5 mm) tungsten foil sheet. The design includes approximately 3,840 drilled holes (0.5 mm diameter) in an 8×8 array of patterns, plus full cuts or deep scoring along the red border lines to singulate 64 dies of 12 mm × 12 mm each. Can someone guide me if the CNC machine can do this or if there’s a laser drill that may be useful? Could someone please advise on feasibility, cost, lead time, and any material/setup requirements?
I don’t know how the co2 laser will react to the tungsten foil. I assume that you would need a fiber laser. I can cut it this weekend if you have some test material
I haven’t tried it, and it would be tedious, but this seems like something the Tormach could handle too. Tedious because even a couple seconds a hole makes this hours of drilling, during which you might need to watch carefully to see if the (carbide?) drill bit broke or dulled. You could do scoring with an engraving tool.
I have tungsten foils , these are thin 0.1 mm 10 cm x 10 cm square foils. Can I share the pattern? Its in a SVG format. When is a good time to try? I am available anytime on Sat/Sunday
