Hey you,

The wait is over! We are ready to start recertifying Asmbly CNC members on the all new Laguna CNCs. If you are receiving this email, then we have you marked as a member who qualifies for free recertification.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Active Asmbly membership
  • Previous Neon registration in a CNC class at Asmbly

All CNC courses from here on out will cover both the large Swift CNC (5’x10’ bed) as well as the small iQ CNC (2’x3’ bed).

Recertification classes are up on the classes page now! These free sessions begin this Wednesday and will be 45 minute sessions with a max of 2 students . Recertification is tailored towards members who are already comfortable using the CNC and simply need to learn the specifics of these new machines including policies that will be in place at Asmbly.

Starting 10/22/22, we will also hold Refresher classes which will be $50 for a 2 hr classes with a max of 4 students. An email and Discourse post will go out when these sessions go live and are available to book.

New Beginner CNC classes are expected to start some time early November. The price for these classes will be $200, so if you qualify for a recertification or refresher course, be sure to grab a spot and save yourself some money!

Only members who have received recertification, refresher, or a new beginner CNC class are authorized to use the new Laguna CNCs at Asmbly.

As a side note, a lot of behind the scenes work has gone into getting these machines at Asmbly. Many members helped make this acquisition possible, but a few members have gone above and beyond. If you see the following members around at the space, please be sure to thank them for all the hard work they put into researching, proposing, receiving, setting up, testing, calibrating, and administrating to fully bring these incredibly powerful new machines online!

Wooo exciting! Thanks to everyone involved! I signed up for one on Thursday, but would honestly prefer next Monday or some other time next week, I’ve got a lot going on this week. Any idea when those will get posted? Want to be able to grab a spot on time

Will there be more classes added for re-certification? All of them except Sunday afternoon show full. Thanks

Wow! Those filled up fast! Yes, we will definitely be adding more for next week soon. If the time @gordoa40 has reserved works for you @Dpatent , maybe you take his spot when we add more sessions for next week. Y’all feel free to DM each other to see if that is of interest and loop me in if you want to switch things around. I’ll get with @mazsalimi @TravisGood and @jamesfreeman to see what dates/times we can add for next week.

Sounds good, thanks! Next week also works better for me.

I tried to sign up, but I’m being blocked. I suspect because my CNC bookings were all prior to October 2021 (I got certified right before the big freeze and did some stuff after but not a whole bunch).

Email membership@asmbly.org if you’d like to look into it and discuss.

Just posted 6 more recertification classes.

As a reminder, refresher classes will start on 10/22 and be a comprehensive option for those who haven’t been using the CNCs and/or just want a more thorough class.

3 more options for next week added.

Is it possible to get in on the donor classes still? I dont have CNC training but would love to get a training class (and access) before November. fingers crossed!

Yes, that is definitely possible! Emailing you directly.

CNC recertifications are well under way, and a number of members have completed them already. If you have completed them, the machines are available for booking. The holds on Skedda have been removed.

Please post pictures of your projects if you are comfortable doing so, would love to see what’s being made.

Is there an ETA for getting the PC setup near the Swift? When both CNCs are booked, and someone is using the PC for their work, there’s no way for the other person to export files. Running into this myself right now.

I just learned there another license installed in the multi purpose room

We have the second PC for the Swift, waiting for a bracket to install it.

Am I understanding the post correct that the Recertification classes will continue to be free and will continue to be held though “some time early November”?

Work has been keeping me busy, so I would like to kind of know when the last free classes will be.

Yes @zackg! We are offering a ton of sessions right now to get as many people trained up as possible, but we’ll continue to have a few sessions per week through early November to capture members like yourself that may just have too much going on right now to get in. Same with the refresher classes which will be coming onto the schedule in the next few days.

The first couple of Refresher classes are now live in Neon! An email just went out to members who are eligible for refreshers. The email subject is “Now starting Laguna CNC Refreshers at Asmbly”. There are only a couple of sessions on the schedule right now, but we should hopefully have within the next 24 hours. Just waiting on schedule confirmations.

As you’ve probably heard, we started recertifying Asmbly CNC members on the all new Laguna CNCs on 10/11 beginning with free Recertification classes, which required members be experienced CNC users with a booking in Skedda sometime in the last year.

We are now starting the next phase of Refresher classes which are open to all active Asmbly members who have taken a CNC class registered through Neon. If you are receiving this email, then we have you marked as a member who qualifies for a refresher class.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Active Asmbly membership
  • Previous Neon registration in a CNC class at Asmbly

All CNC courses from here on out will cover both the large Swift CNC (5’x10’ bed) as well as the small iQ CNC (2’x3’ bed).

Refresher classes will be $50 for a 2 hr class with a max of 4 students. These sessions will be comprehensive, condensed versions of the new beginner CNC class and will cover everything from creating vectors and toolpaths, saving G codes, setting up the machines and cutting files.

You can register on the classes page now. There are a limited number of sessions available right now, but more will be added as teacher schedules are confirmed.

As a reminder, Recertification classes are free sessions 45 minute sessions with a max of 2 students . Recertification is tailored towards members who are already comfortable using the CNC and simply need to learn the specifics of these new machines including policies that will be in place at Asmbly. The eligibility difference between members authorized for recertification vs refresher classes is determined based on whether they booked the CNC in Skedda sometime over the last year. All members eligible for recertification are also eligible for refreshers.

More Refresher and Recertification classes have been added to the schedule. We’re primarily offering Refreshers right now to give that group of members an opportunity to get trained up, but we’ll continue to offer a few recertification classes as well for the next month.

There’s a CNC router class by james on Saturday Nov 5th. I suppose I need to take it to be recertified to use the CNC. But it shows a price of $200. How do I get the price of $50 as I took the old CNC class in the past.

Thanks
